The Colour of Hell Fire
“Hell fire is black as tar and dark as night.” (Bayhaqi)
“Those burning in hell fire could find the fire in world; they would sleep and rest in it.”
Malik related to me from his paternal uncle Abu Suhayl ibn Malik from his father that Abu Hurayra said, "Do you think that it is red like this fire of yours? It is blacker than tar." (Malik, Book 57, Hadith 57.1.2)
“Even the most fierce fire of this world is 70 fold cooler than the fire of Hell.”
Malik related to me from Abu'z-Zinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
"The fire of the children of Adam which they kindle is a seventieth part of the fire of Jahannam."
They said, "Messenger of Allah, this fire is certainly enough."
Then He said: "That fire is sixty-nine times greater." (Malik, Book 57, Hadith 57.1.1)
“Fire as we know it is one seventieth part of the Fire of Hell. Someone said, ‘O Messenger of God, it is enough as it is!’ He said, ‘It is as if sixty-nine equal portions were added to fire as we know it.’” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)
Abu Huraira narrates: Rasulullah (saw) said:
“Hell had been lit for one thousand years until its flames became red. Again it was heated for another thousand years till its colour became white. Still again it was burnt for further thousand years and its white color flames turned pitch black.” (Tirmidhi, Muwatta)
