A Short History of Egbira Tribe
CHAPTER 2: THE ORIGIN OF THE EGBIRA TRIBER
The early history of the egbira is difficult to determine. Anything that can be said concerning it be only a conjecture formed on references arising from enquiries can be directed to such places as wukari, idah, koto-karfi, okene and umaisha. The history of egbira closely follow that of the igala, the egbira like the igala claim ultimate ancestry from the jukun of wakari, thus: their origin can be traced to the jukun powerful kingdom of kararrafa. A proof of this claim can be seen in the culture of the egbira which are common to board the igala and jukun. Even there are spoken word which are common in the languages of the three tribes.
Following the disintegration of the ancient kingdom of the kararrafa, The egbira migration began from wakari. The founders of the egbira clan which subsequently found the home at idah, where among the groups which followed the trail of abutu eje who played wukari toward the search for various reason including unsuccessful attempt to obtain one of the highest jukun titles. Abutu eje, apparently, is not known to egbiras.
The move towards the south into the country’s – side where other tribe such as agatu and akpoto lived, made the egbiras to have contact with them, there by acquiring more customer and traditions.
